CARBUNCLE!
Three new job/classes have been announced for FFXIV.
Arcanist....not Alchemist and we see in the below video the Arcanist "summon" Carbuncle (still better than Courier Crab), a Final Fantasy staple.
Scholar the scholar encapsulates the term the pen is mightier than the sword! Fight the forces of evil by calling forth a mighty....faerie....:/
Summoner My old main in FFXI! All the cool kids wore a horn on their forehead....like a unicorn! We Summoners were Fabulous....LMAO!
Ok so Summoners don't summon Carbuncle???WTF, we get some tiny Ifrit lookin' thing O.o
So I've noticed that some of my friends are in the FFXIV Beta....the rest of us are playing The Last of Us.
I'm tempted to get FFXIV ARR but I'm still not convinced this isn't just Vana Diel 2.0 with a fresh coat of HD paint.

FFXIV ARR Tutorial for MMO Newbs
I remember all the macro's I had stored for FFXI, some were just silly one's that I used to show off my knowledge of the franchise but then I had soo many with timers for my SMN with macros for each individual summoned creature....still kinda sad I never got Fenrir and Diabolos!
Anyway if you're still considering FFXIV ARR check out the Dev tutorial vid below! The game looks gorgeous!
Hey Krogenar....RRRRAAAWWWWRRRR!!!

FFXIV Eorzea Exploration trailers
One of my fondest memories in FFXI was hoping on my chocobo and riding across the lands of Vana Diel, it was a gorgeous world and at times terrifying...but most of the time I had my Galkan buddy Krogenar with me. This trailer brings back some of those fun memories, there sure is ALOT to see in these trailers like kupo! a Mog, and some intense party's battling some impressive mobs! I saw lots of Mages dying and some big ass Galkans swinging some even bigger ass swords!
The environments looked phenomenal, but every one reminded me of somewhere in Vana Diel....
At the end of the second trailer they drop the link for registration for the beta at entry.ffxiv.com/beta/eu.
Hey Krog Limit Break Radio needs a new host!
And to my friends from LOTB Carbuncle > Courier Crab! RRRRAAAWWWRRR!!!

FFXIV Levequests & Party Combat Video @ version
The more I think about it, the more I think if this version of FFXIV turns out to be good it could essentially extend the PS3's life by at least a year and a half....just enough time for those who won't be transitioning to the PS4 on launch week/month /year....just enough time for the PS4's first price cut....

TGS 2012 FFXIV Trailer
Squeenix has published the latest trailer for FFXIV. Slated for release on the PS3 this MMO has had one of the worst launches in history, I don't think launching this title on the PS3 at the end of the consoles life cycle is a good idea, especially with a subscription service. Most gamers will be migrating to PS4 and the next X-box in the 2013 holiday season.
I watched the trailer and for me it really didn't grab me as anything other than a graphically enhanced FFXI.

And with it comes a new trailer...
Personally I'm not crazy about the trailer, the voice is wrong and the pace seems way too fast. Even the logo seems all wrong, it basically a negative image of the original with the subtitle A Realm Reborn and if you have read any of the history of this title that's a very telling title indeed...
SQUARE ENIX ANNOUNCES REDESIGNED FINAL FANTASY XIV: A REALM REBORN Massively Multiplayer Online Adventure Rebuilt from the Ground Up FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE LOS ANGELES (July 26, 2012) – Square Enix, Inc., the publishers of SQUARE ENIX® interactive entertainment products in the Americas, announced today the fully-redesigned, massively multiplayer online adventure FINAL FANTASY® XIV: A Realm Reborn™. Previously referenced as "version 2.0," this title has been rebuilt from the ground up, and centers on the core concept of rebirth, featuring a new world to explore and storyline to experience. FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn offers visually-stunning graphics and game design that appeal to both Windows PC and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system players. "Since announcing our plans for the future of the title last October, we have been working tirelessly to include all of the elements that we have promised in FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn. This new title not only becomes a symbol of a completely new FINAL FANTASY XIV, but also marks the beginning of a new stage as the latest title in the FINAL FANTASY series. I hope you're looking forward to it!" said Naoki Yoshida, producer/director of FINAL FANTASY XIV. A new website dedicated to FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn (http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/) also went live today, which offers background information on the realm of Eorzea, its inhabitants and the much larger world of Hydaelyn. The website will also serve as the central location for regular updates and news about the game.

FFXIV 2.0
In darkness the Crystal dreams,As from the flames of DestructionA new Beginning rises.Come, brave heroes,Heed the Crystal's call.Gather once more. And witness a realm reborn....
The above quote comes from the updated FFXIV OS....interesting choice of words indeed. With all the work that's been put into "fixing" FFXIV I remain optimistic that eventually the game may get a console release....but I think SE might be better off holding off on launching FFXIV 2.0 till the PS4 and Xbox 720 launches Q4 2013.
There's some new concept art and screen shots that showcase the revamped HUD...love the names the devs used!I'm still on the fence wether I'll buy Vana Diel 2.0.....

Just got my Official Squeenix Newsletter for February...skipped the main story about Wei Shen and his narcoleptic felines and scrolled straight down to the news regarding Wakfu.
"Closed Beta is Over. Open Beta has come to a close. Now, the World of Twelve goes live on February 29. Choose from one of twelve available character classes, customize your appearance and set out on an amazing adventure. As you adventure thru the world, you will have the opportunity to interact with an ever changing eco-system, participate in a unique political system, and of course, enjoy strategic turn based combat."

WTF is Wakfu?
A couple months back I received an email from Square Enix regarding a new game called Wakfu, the first thing that caught my attention was the very unique art style! So I did a little research and this little gem is based on an animated TV series ( wakfu TV Series ), it's an MMO, it's a Strategy RPG sorta like Final Fantasy Tactics...but this game has no ties at all to the FF games.
The game is in closed beta right now, but should launch February 2012 according to the games page on the Square Enix website http://www.wakfu.com/na/mmorpg

Final Fantasy XIV The Grinding Question???
The other saying you're adventuring days behind you, you spent almost 4 RL years in Vana Deal, met some great adventurers, had some fantastic adventures and truly enjoyed my travels under, over and across Vana Diel.
Many things in my life have changed since I traversed Vana Diel, most important of them is my son.
I know this nagging question must be in many gamers still playing FFXI minds, "Do I want to start all over from square one?" For many people, like myself, who invested so much time grinding out hours upon hours to level up your character in multiple job classes and crafting, NM and HNM hunts and suffering thru the agony which was CoP Eorzea might not seem very inviting.
Compound that with my initial impressions that Eorzea is Vana Diel 2.0! The mobs shown so far are the same as in Vana Diel. There's three main cities: Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, Ul'Dah, Limsa Lominsa has some subtle similarities to Bastok, Gridania to Windurst and Ul'Dah to San d'Oria.
The similarities don't end there, the five main character races are back but with different names!
Galka are now Roegadyn
Humes are now Hyur
Elvaan are now Elezen
Mithra are now Miqo'te
TaruTaru are now Lalafell
WTF! Not even one new race SE???
Despite all the logic saying don't venture in a new Final Fantasy MMO, I have to admit there's still something luring me and I can't figure what it is. Maybe it's the call of adventure...to the enjoyment of discovery in the gorgeous and enormous worlds of Square's MMO's.
If I do decide to play FFXIV I will start a new blog to chronical my travels in Eorzea much like I did with Tryptifaeris in Vana Diel http://whatsthedealinvanadiel.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html

Final Fantasy XIV PC launch details
FINAL FANTASY XIV takes the first intrepid steps into an unknown realm, and in doing so a new place for adventurers of all creeds to call home is born — Eorzea. In the world of Hydaelyn, the term Eorzea denotes the geographical region comprised of the continent of Aldenard and its surrounding islands, as well as the civilization which spawned there. Calling the area home are several independent city-states,the most notable being Limsa Lominsa, bustling port and pirate hub; Ul’dah, a desert city rich in mineral wealth; Gridania, nested deep within an ageless wood; and Ishgard, bastion atop the mountains.
Throughout the realm can be found climates both harsh and mild, as diverse as the skies are vast. Bleak, desolate landscapes stretch to uncharted horizons, their uninviting expanses yet to be traversed. Colossal monstrosities stalk the land, as if mountains primeval had somehow stirred and risen. Of all the things Eorzea may be said to be, hospitable is not among them.
In the past, the city-states battled tirelessly, vying for domination and hegemony. Death-mongering beast tribes molested the land unchecked, leaving only destruction in their wake. Unseen enemies lurked beyond the borders, striking at the slightest provocation or show of weakness. The history of Eorzea is a tapestry woven of war and strife, stained with the blood of those gone before, and the tears and ash of fallen endeavor.
And yet the love the gods bear this unforgiving land endures, now as always. What is the allure of this seemingly forsaken place? With what hope and to what end do would-be inhabitants journey here to live out their days?
The answer lies with that which gives form to Hydaelyn and all myriad creation in it—crystals. The cornerstone of all things,it is these crystallized manifestations of the aether that beckon the people to come, risking all in the undertaking.
And so it is that adventurers too have harkened the call—to bear witnessto the epic set to unfold in this land. This Eorzea.

FFXIV update

According to the article, there are four categories of jobs right now Fighter, Sorcerer, Crafter and Gatherer.
Two jobs have been unveiled for each.
Fighter: Swordsman, Archer
Sorcerer: Enchanter, Warlock
Crafter: Blacksmith, Cook
Gatherer: Gardener, Fisherman
Races:
Hyuran (hume)The Hyuran are said to be the most prolific race of all Eorzea. The article mentions that they migrated to Eorzea in large number from neighboring islands and continents. They brought with them great technology and innovation that raised the civilization of Eorzea to new heights. Having immigrated from a variety of lands there is great diversity to be found amongst the Hyuran in terms of language and culture. The two main classifications of Hyuran are "Midlanders" who migrated
to lower areas of Eorzea, and the "Highlanders" who migrated into the hills and mountains.
to lower areas of Eorzea, and the "Highlanders" who migrated into the hills and mountains.Elzen (Elvaan) The Elzen are the anscestral race of Eorzea, and have clashed with the Hyuran in the past to defend their homeland.
Lalafell (taru) They are a race of farmers who live mainly near the Southern Sea. They also boast an exceptional degree of intelligence.
Roegadyn (galka) The Roegadyn are a muscular race of fishermen that live near the Northern Sea. It appears that some work as hired mercenaries or bodyguards, but others lead a less noble life as pirates.
Miqo'te (Mithra) Miqo'te are cat-like people who are again known as fierce hunters. They are mainly separated into "Sunseekers" and "Moonkeepers," the latter of which are
nocturnal. Together, the Miqo'te are a minority race in the land of Eorzea.
nocturnal. Together, the Miqo'te are a minority race in the land of Eorzea.Other Noteworthy info from the article:
* The difference in ability between races is said to be less severe than that of Final Fantasy XI
* Battles progress in real-time, but are not action-oriented, i.e. There is more to consider during battle that simply targeting the enemy and wailing away on it
* The Armory System allows for job changing anywhere, so inventory space is of great importance. Therefore, ways to change armor quickly and easily are being considered
* Currently investigating whether to allow all skills to be mastered, or have a see-saw style system like crafting in Final Fantasy XI
* "Guild Leave" will be a system of quests that include monster hunting, skilling up and a myriad of other activities. Players will obtain items to allow them to travel instantly to their required destination. There seems to be a lot about this system in the article as well, but we'll save that until it's fully visible.
* There will be weather effects and night/day transitions. One game day is one Earth hour.
* Final Fantasy XIV will be casual enough that even playing one hour a day is sufficient to enjoy the game.
* The game currency will be gil
Regions of Eorza
Uldaha: the desert,
Gridania:the forest
Rimsa-Rominsa:the seaside.
FFXIV Game system:
Armory System depending on a character's equipment dictates play style. Changing equipment is executed in real time. For example, if you're invited to join a team of warriors to fight the enemies, you only need to wear the corresponding equipment to be ready. Once the party disbanded, you only need to change equipment to come back as a crafter, fisherman, etc. This freedom will make the solo play easier since a warrior who wants to be cured can change into a healer himself. It's crucial to maintain a good balance of equipment to "level up" easier and be less reliant on other party members.
GUILDS & MISSIONS
Guilds delivers licences/permits to players.
Permits match with the missions the character needs to fulfill.
The players will be able to share these permits and even decide on the number of persons who can participate in the mission.
Missions/ quests will be irrevelant to the level of each players but some permits can't be obtained before a definite level.
Missions/Quests can take up to or more than 30min to be fulfilled.
Players can carry several permits at the same time.
Missions will have different and various goals: monster hunting, enemies' raid, skill ups... These operations are called "etherites" and will allow you to be instantly teleported to the specified area.

FFXIV online...Vana Diel 2.0?

Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in. FFXIV has been in development since 2005 and was until yesterday known to a few select people as "Rapture". The second FF MMORPG may reunite us with Vana Diel... oops I mean Eorzea, but I think we'll end up in a new world that will be very reminisent of FFXI....there better be Moogles kupo!
DAM! I went cold turkey with FFXI a few years back...loved playing it but dam 3+ years I played and I never reached 55 with any job classes! 2010 is gonna suck for my wallet! FFXIII, FF VSXIII, FFXIV MMO >.<

E3: Star Wars The Old Republic MMORPG trailer

After spending over 3 years playing Final Fantasy XI MMO, I finally went cold turkey....there's something about MMORPG's that are so unrecognizably addictive, with real working economies, day/night cycles, weeks, job classes, crafts, weather ect. And that's not even taking into account the actual gameplay with thousands of players around the real world that make the world of whatever MMO work.
I enjoyed my time in Vana Diel but once you reach the higher levels (FFXI capped @ 55) the time requirements seriously impede on RL...I made it to 49 with SMN, plus I had WHT, BLM, and a bunch of other classes lvl'd up beyond 30.....3+ years.
So anyway check out the recently released trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic
The cinenmatic quality is freakin sweeet and Bioware knows how to make a Star Wars RPG but the last StarWars MMO....Galaxies...well it didn't pan out.

Game Review: Fantasy XI

He's Crafty
Last night I managed to get the Fei Yin chest key and find a treasure chest to acquire the magic tome needed to finish the quest magic of the north to get the scroll of Tele Zvahl. I've been burning the midnight oil in the Carpenters Guild in San D Oria lately and managed to get woodworking up to 18.
I reached a wall with woodworking, my next synth is silver arrows, which requires, yagudo fletchings, black chocobo feathers, willow lumber, and silver arrow heads. Silver arrows sell for 3-5K a doz. Silver arrowheads sell for 50k for a stack of 99! So I am now working on gold smithing so I can synth my own silver arrowheads.
