Netflix War for Cybertron : Seige Trailer

I was starting to wonder if this series was cancelled....
Thankfully not, the trailer just dropped from the NY Toy Fair and it looks very similar to the Machinima series from a few years back.
The trailer looks to explore the time just prior to the Autobots exodus from Cybertron. It also gave me hope that Seige will delve into the polical climate of Cybertron where Megatron makes his bid to become a Prime! I'm also hopeful we get to see Orion Pax and Alpha Trion in this series.

G1 Transformers Rock Band, Cybertronic Spree cover Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song

Folks, I've traveled from one side of the internet to the other. I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen anything to make me believe there's one all-powerful video that rules everything. There's no mystical video that controls my destiny. It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense....
I've now witnessed the the best mankind can be!

One Trailer can make a difference!

I have given all my G1 Transformer's toys to my son (except Shockwave and Jetfire) I grew up watching the original series, I watched  the first two Bayformers then opted out of that stupidity. I intoduced my son to transformers with rescue bots and when he was a few years older I showed him TF Prime and he was hooked...a little too much. And most recently we watched Transformers Combiner Wars which was well done for a Youtube series!
Anywho I'm a firm believer that Anime and stuff like Transformers doesn't need to be translated into live action, they're essentially the same genre!
When I saw the first trailer for this Bumblebee Movie I instantly passed on it, now I just saw the "NEW" official trailer (WTF does that mean?) and I might have to go with my son to see this in the theaters afterall......

Can someone please confirm Michael Bay has no involvement in this movie!

Transformers Prime Season Finale Review

I just sat thru a 3 & 1/2 hour Transformers marathon and my childhood memories were resurrected! I started off my little marathon with a trip back to 1987 with The Transformers animated movie, then I fired up the ol DVR and watched Transformers Prime episodes 23 24pt1, pt 2 and pt3.

Absolutely amazing! This show is written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, recognize the names???
They are the co creators and executive producers of Fringe with J.J. Abrams, which in my opinion is one of the best shows on TV today, and interestingly enough they are also the writers of the first two Michael Bay Transformers movies...which, again, my opinion are absolute shit fests.  I think we all know who is to blame for those hot messes.
Anyway any fan of the G1 series will not be disappointed by Transformers Prime, I can't hype this series enough, give it chance you'll be pleasantly surprised! Transformers Prime airs Saturdays 8:30 pm EST / 5:30 pm PT.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon Review

4 years and almost 3 billion in box office earnings later Michael Bay's Transformers trilogy is over....I can't say complete because these three movies are anything but, except a complete waste of time and money.
The first movie left me a glimmer of hope that the next film would be even better....it wasn't http://willsfreeswim.blogspot.com/2009/06/transformers-revenge-of-fallen.html
Now after all the excuses and hype we get Transformers: Dark of the Moon, was it good? In my opinion no, were the effects impressive? Yes, but this is the third movie and by now using the crutch that these are special effects blockbusters doesn't cut it.
In TDotM we are introduced to two major new characters Sentinel Prime, previous leader of the Autobots before handing the Matrix down to Optimus and Shockwave. The later is what got me to go see this movie, as a kid I thought Shockwave was the coolest Decepticon and the original Marvel comics series solidified that with Transformers issue # 5. This movie failed miserably to capture the essence of Shockwave and most of the primary Transformers. But when your design for Shockwave reminds me of the cinematic jem D-Wars...you've really done something incredibly wrong!
Back to Sentinel Prime...I liked the design, I was impressed they got Leonard Nemoy to voice the character and for the most part I was ok with the way they retconed the Autobot leader history with Sentinel Prime but the hardcore fans will cry foul. I would have preferred seeing the G1 Alpha Trion story where he takes a damaged Orion Pax and rebuilds him into Optimus Prime The first "leader" of the new Autobot army.....oh well, another fanboy dream dashed!
Ok lets change gears for a second to the fleshlings, Shia LeBeouf as Sam Witwicky, I liked the character in the first movie...a little less in the second and even less in this movie...I can't tell if it's the character that's changed or the actor.
Sam's new girlfriend Carly Spencer played by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley aside from eye candy was useless, and when she got all up in Megatron's grill talking smack....I threw up a little in my mouth. I would've preferred Sam to be single and trying to make his way in the real world, than the panty waist he came across as in DotM.

John Turturro yet again comes across as complete douchebag...I've never seen a character span an entire trilogy as absolutely irritating and poorly developed as Agent Simmons. It's unfortunate Steve Buscemi wasn't available for the role....I honestly believe he would've done a much better job.
Ma and Pa Witwicky are back and I'm happy to say they're not as utterly retarded as in RotF.
Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson  put in solid performances in DotM and their characters have been the most consistent and enjoyable through these movies for me.

Now for the new fleshlings in the series!
Dylan Gould played by Patrick Dempsey, I feel the character would've worked better with Megan Fox's character Mikaela, the first two movies we learn she's good under the hood and her pops was a car thief...with her being replaced by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley Dylan Gould and Carly Spencer seem disjointed and out of place in this movie.

Bruce Brazos played by John Malkovich...wait who!? The John Malkovich, I'm sure the ONLY reason he did this is for the paycheck. Cool that he's in the movie but really over qualified actor in my opinion.

And then there's Ken Jeong...this "little" guy seems to be everywhere since the hangover! He plays Jerry Wang and is in one of the most outrageous scenes in any of the 3 movies involving Sam Witwicky, Jerry Wang and a bathroom stall...nuff said. Suffice it to say I was glad to see Jerry Wang plummet to his death.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Buzz Aldrin cameo, seeing Buzz Aldrin talking to Optimus Prime was pretty geektacular.

Once the assault on Chicago got underway DotM hit a good pace and all the superfluous crap went to the back burner, the airborne jump above the battle by Lennox and the army forces was epic! And I have to admit the scenes with Sam, Epps and his squad trying to make their way to Cary and Dylan was also epic. As mentioned earlier I was not impressed with Shockwave, more exactly the cybernetic worms he controlled...what the hell were they!?
The other glaring problem I had with DotM was the significant lack of screen time Megatron had. We see him briefly in Africa then briefly throughout the assault on Chicago it's not till he rips Sentinel a new one, but then seems to revert back to a feeble shell of his former glory and then Optimus totally does something so out of character it had me go WTF!?

To sum up my feelings for DotM and all 3 movies It's not like we're looking for Shakespearian quality for a Transformers movie but if they had used the G1 series as a foundation for these 3 movies I honestly believe they would've been infinitely better than the crap Bay put on the screen. The work ILM put into bringing these robots to life is absolutely spectacular but I truly dispised the design of some of them. The elementary school scripts, obnoxious human characters, nauseating dialog and mind numbing inattention to detail has me depressed when you factor in these movies have made almost 3 BILLION dollars in worldwide BO sales.....WTF PEOPLE!!!

Someone is going to sit down one day and watch these 3 movies back to back and realize that in the first movie Megatron chases the All Spark from Cybertron to Earth and crashes in the arctic for millions of years, In the second Movie Megs needs Optimus Prime Dead to find the Autobot Matrix to power the Sun Harvestor but in the third movie Megs needs Optimus Alive to find and revive Sentinel Prime in order to power the space bridge to...these movies make guys like me who grew up watching the G1 series cringe.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon was better than Revenge of the Fallen but that's not anything to celebrate about.

T3: DotM Megatron Revealed

Ugh so Hasbro just let the cat outta the bag for Megs new look in T3: DotM....and in my humble opion I say FAIL!
If they were introducing the Combaticons this would make a great Onslaught, not Megs!
Here's the set pics, I'd post the pics of the toy but Hasbro's interwebs goons are patrolling and well ya know...give it a week.

Gandalf is a Decepticon

Wanna know what REALLY happens to Gandalf at the end of Peter Jackson's Fellowship of the Ring??
Well the Balrog pulls Gandalf to the pit of middle erf and Gandalf battles the Balrog and finally defeats him. Then Gandalf falls asleep.......for a really long time!
When he wakes up on the moon and finds he's no longer Gandalf the Grey....now....henceforth he will be known as Gandalfatron! Leader of the Decepticons!!!!!!
Watch the teaser trailer for Bayformers and tell me you don't see Gandalf's mug on that bayformer!
Here I did the work for you.

Transformers DotM Teaser

Ugh, well here's the first trailer for Transformers: (Lets try this a 3rd time) Dookie on the Moon. Apparently they don't have Onstar on Cybertron....who knows how long Goldbug there was sitting around on the moon.

Transformers: DotM teaser poster

So here's the first peice of media for the upcoming Transformers movie Dark of the Moon....first the sub title is garbage, second if rumors are true and the main protagonist is Shockwave they have completely blown it, third, this poster SUCKS! Is that the Dark Knight? Is it Batwave? Is that Shockman?
It's certainly NOT Shockwave!
Really Bay? Really? The first movie was pretty good, the second was such a waste of time and money, and the third has only one way to go, but from this shit poster and interwebs rumors I'm not interested at all! Maybe the Robotech (Macross lite) live action movie can do it right...but I have no faith in that one either.

One shall stand...one shall fall

First Japan constucts a lifesize Gundam( http://willsfreeswim.blogspot.com/2009/06/rx78-gundam-attacks-japan-wheres-gojira.html ) now China responds with a lifesize Optimus Prime! Optimus stands over 30 feet tall and is made of sterner stuff...10,108 parts of scrap metal. Pretty Impressive China....but does he transform? Huh??

Gundam and Optimus are cool and all but if you wanna impress me you're gonna have to go bigger...I'm talking Super Dimensional Fortress Macross people! 3970 feet, 18,000,000 tons, c'mon the Macross was supposed to depart February 2009...get cracking people!

Transformers: War for Cybertron Reveal Trailer

It's sad to say but this trailer looks more entertaining than last summers mega failure Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen!
I hope Activision does the series proud and stays true to the G1 series lore. Seeing Omega Supreme and Trypticon blowing shit up was sweet!

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen review

Optimus, you lost me at "Punk ass Decepticon"....

When we last saw Optimus and the gang, Megatron was destroyed and dropped in the ocean, Starscream was fleeing earth, and Sam was getting busy with Mikaela on top of Bumblebee.....things were looking good.

I'll be honest, I enjoyed the first Transformers movie when I saw it in the theater in 2007, BUT when I bought it on DVD every consequtive viewing was less and less enjoyable. I think once the intial awe of seeing the giant robots transform and interact with real actors seamlessly wears off there's little else of value in the movie....Acting meh.....Story meh....Likeable Characters/Development....meh Soundtrack....meh.

Regrettibly the same holds true for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, this movie is absolutely amazing visually.....THAT IS IT! The team at ILM should be commended the special effects are trully remarkable. I wish there was other aspects of RotF I could praise but there really isn't. As weak as the story was for the first movie this one makes it look like Gone With the Wind! So Sam's going to college, he has commitment issues with Megan Fox (WHAT!?), Decepticon's are hunting down the remains of the all-spark to revive Megatron...(the same all-spark that destroyed him in the first movie), After Megs gets a jump start he heads to....Mars???Cybertron??? and talks to The Emperor...oops The Fallen about reclaiming the Autobot Matrix to activate a weapon that will destroy the Earth.

Revenge of the Fallen could've been so much more enjoyable if the story was actually comprehensible and was the main focus of the movie, not the CG and explosions. In my opinion the following things could've been removed altogether and the movie would've been better, Sam's mom getting high from hash brownies....this scene had me going WTF am I watching Transformers or Family Guy? Sam finding a shard of the all spark and having a bunch of household appliances come to life in his house....it was F*cking retarded in the first movie and this was worse ( Ejector a Decepticon toaser....REALLY?) Skids and Mudflap (The Twins)....every time they spoke I cringed...parents had brought their kids in my showing and the language these two blatantly obvious stereotypes spewed was absolutely not necessary! Sams roomate Leo....and I thought I couldn't hate any character more than Turturro's Agent Simmons from the first movie, Leo was the 9th gate of hell in cinematic history of useless/annoying/irratating characters. John Turturro "robo warrior" Agent Simmons would be the 8th gate, WHY WAS HE IN THE MOVIE???? NOT NECESSARY! Next pointless character is Alice the over aggressive slut who's actually a pretender (Pretender's were introduced at the end of the G1 golden years...the toys were garbage), again this character could've been written in with some more substance, but instead the little girls see the emotionless slut with a paint by numbers face use sex as a means of getting the all spark info from Sam.....GREAT MESSAGE FOR YOUNG IMPRESSIONABLE GIRLS! The two characters that were worth developing got side lined; Mgr Lennox (Josh Duhamel) and CMSGT Rob Epps (Tyrese Gibson) There were too many useless human characters that weren't needed and unfortunately too many cool Transformers like Soundwave, Sideswipe, Jolt, and Sideways that took a back seat to stupidity like Skids and Mudflap, the most ghetto fabulous autobots in the history of Transformers. Scatman Crothers rest in peace. Wheelie the RC truck Decepticon....stop right there! Wheelie a Decepticon O.o. Kids this is Wheelie:

First he's an Autobot, second he speaks in riddles not like a 1930's gangster.

Onto the Fallen, I never believed that the Fallen was anyone other than Megatron, well I was wrong. Was the Character necessary? In my opinion, no. I would've prefered to see Starscream return to Cybertron and recruit fresh Decepticons and claim leadership in Megs absence (just like G1). This would've opened up the split factions of Decpticons senerio, Soundwave following Starscreams orders but secretly planning to revive Megs (the true fallen). Instead we get some lame ass Vader/Emperor carbon copy scene....LAME!

Megatron, I liked in RotF he resembled G1 Megs a bit more than the first movie, and the few scenes he had with Starscream did a great job of capturing the dynamic between them. I would've liked to see a more expanded scene of Megs reboot than just that short bit shown....feel free to delete any of the previously mentioned worthless scenes. Oh and I'm not sure how many people noticed but Megs is actually a triple changer now.

I'll finish up with Jetfire, in G1 he's actually a rip-off of Macross's VF-1 Valkyrie, the figure was very well built and was one of my favorites along with Shockwave. In RotF Jetfire is a SR-71 Blackbird....cool plane, horrible mech design....Jetfire's story in RotF is similar to his G1 story as he did begin as a Decepticon and switch alliances but that's where the similarities end. Jetfire could've been utilized so much better than being a plot device, a good indicator of how bad the character development is in this series is how I really had no emotional reaction when Jetfire is mortally wounded by Scorpononk and offers his spark to revive Optimus Prime.

Fans of Transformers: Armada were probably psyched to see Jet Optimus. I enjoyed watching Jet Optimus kick the shit outta The Fallen and Megatron at once. Like I said the special effects in RotF were outstanding...just wish the story was above mediocre.

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen is not worth the price of admission and it's not good for younger viewers!

New Transformers 2 Footage

When Robot movies compete we win!

I've been pretty down on TF2 simply because McG's T4 trailers have been stellar. Up till now it looked like Cyberdyne was gonna KO Cybertron, but Michael Bay just let loose a very promising clip, in it we clearly see The Fallen and Devastator as well as Megan Fox stripping!

Looks like The Transformers are gonna give the Terminators a run for the Box Office crown...

Transformers: RotF Devastator & The Fallen Images

After the super bowl teaser trailer that left me less than excited, it seems Michael Bay has left the cat (as in catapillar equipment) out of the bag along with an image of The Fallen (I'm still calling Bravo Sierra on this).
I may be in the minority here but I think Devastator looks awful, What the hell is that thing for a head!?
As far as The Fallen, it looks totally out of place with what we've seen in the movies so far, the Fallen looks like an H.R. Giger creation....which would make it the coolest transformer of the whole lot! And what does the Fallen transform into an oral B toothbrush?!

Transformers: RotF: Teaser Poster

Tis the season for pissed off red eyed robots! Just imagine if the Witwicki's and the Connors had a family picnick...oh the horror! Toasters to Mountain Dew machines would be leaking oil from their "servos". Anyway here's the teaser for this summers sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen....and for the record I am a firm believer the fallen is Megatron, not some obscure transformer that is only mentioned in comic mythos.

Transformers 2: Optimus <3 Jetfire

I'm not one to post movie rumors but this one's been out for awhile and If true this could be as impressive to see on the big screen as Jurassic Park was the first time you saw the digital dinos or as utterly horrendous as Dragon War.
Apparently Jetfire or should I call him VF-1A will be introduced in ROTF, no longer the F-14 Tomcat now Jetfire will be the much speedier SR-71 Blackbird and Optimus Prime will be crushing hard on him! Rumor has it the two "get together" for some bot on bot action O.o
In other ROTFLOL rumor news a team of six decipticreeps will build a significant relationship and when they "get together" something BIG is gonna happen ^-^....

Movie Review: Transformers

As a kid that grew up in the 80's, I was lucky to be blessed with such animated masterpieces such as Voltron, Robotech, Galaxy High, Thunder Cats, Jem and the Holograms, Dungeons & Dragons, GI Joe, and Transformers! Of all those classic cartoons one grabed kids imagination more than any other and it was the Transformers, not only were the toys really cool but the show was great, at least it was when I was a kid with an over active imagination.
The battle between the valiant Autobots and the evil Decepticons has raged for over 3 decades, been made into an animated feature length film, has had multiple comic adaptations and has now been brought back to the silver screen in a live action summer blockbuster ($309,420,425)! Not bad considering Optimus Prime was going up against Spidey and Jack Sparrow, but that might of been part of the reason Transformers did such phenomenal sales at the box office. I had been following the news of this movie since June of 2003 over at PDT and the feelings of Trans-fans stretched the spectrum from avid disgust at not being faithful to the canon to childish glee at seeing their favorite childhood cartoon coming to celuloid reality.
I fell somewhere in the middle, cautiously optimistic, and after seeing it I can say it did what needed to be done. It told a story of transforming beings from the planet Cybertron that came to Earth to find a source of energy. The Autobots lead by Optimus Prime and the Decepticons commanded by Megatron,a boy named Witwicky who befriends the Autobots and giant robots kicking the crap outta each other. All the rest was filler to grab as many Trans-noobs as possible...apparently it worked! My only complaint about the movie is John Turturo, he might be a great actor, but for the love of Cybertron, what script was he given!? If I could I'd cut every single scene with sector seven and replace it with some Decepticon transmissions with Cybertron. That is all I will say about the movie's short comings because it's a fun movie that will grab your attention with it's squirel-on-crack pace. And the work ILM did on the visuals was as impressive as the T-Rex in JP when I first saw that!
I did apreciate the fan service sprinkled throughout like, "One shall stand, one shall fall" and "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings".
The special transforming DVD case from Target is also pretty cool, too bad DW sold out to Microsoft because there are alot of consumers who would've bought it on Blu-ray, my self included.
Some fun extras to bring fans back to their childhood and show new fans how rich the Transformers mythos goes.
Looking forward to T2!
