Macross Delta Preview Episode .089

I'm kicking off 2016 in a Super Decultcha way, watching the preview episode .089 for Macross Delta!
M: Delta takes place in the year 2067, only a few years after Frontier, there was a lot to take in this preview and the pace was relentless but I enjoyed it. For those new to Macross it might be a little overwhelming. I was happy they kept the galactic map that showed the courses of the immigration fleets across the galaxy that was seen in Macross Frontier!
I was actually surprised this episode introduced so many characters, we first meet Freyja Wion the young stowaway that dreams of competing on Planet Laguna to be the newest member of Walkure, an idol group that is dispatched along with the Delta Squadron to combat the Var Syndrome, a mysterious disease that destabilizes the victim and sets them into a violent homicidal rage (terrorism). I thought Freyja Wion was adorable and displayed many of the same naive tendencies that we've seen in the past with other young wanna be idols...Minmay, Mao Nome, Ranka Lee.

Then we meet Hayate Immelmann a laid back kid working on planet Al Shahal on the cargo docks, he hasn't found anything in life that truly excites him....yet.
Next we meet Mikumo Guynemer the lead vocalist of Walkure who appears to be undercover on a mission but is aware of Freyja, soon after we meet Second Lieutenant Mirage Farina Jenius! Hayate reminds me of Max and then Mirage has his last name.....interesting.
Then the Var outbreak strikes at a Zentradi base and all hell breaks loose at Al Shahal City and the Delata Squadron with their respective Walkure procede to neutralize the threat!
It was cool seeing the old school Regults in action after so many years, seeing the Walkure "transform" to "go live" was kinda silly in a Sailor Moon kinda way, not cool like Kill La Kill,  I hope they don't show this sequence every time they "transform".

After my second viewing I'm getting a Macross II vibe from certain aspects of Delta such as when we hear the dirge like hymn that causes the Var outbreak on Al Shahal on the Zentradi base. The long staircase with the throne at the top reminded me of where Ishtar sat in MII . And the Walkure remind me of the Minmay Attack from MII as well.
Seeing the Aerial Knights come out of fold was a relief, the Vajra were ok but I much prefer humanoid enemies over bugs, the dog fight between SV 262 Draken and the VF31 Siegfried was ok, but nothing extraordinary.
I tried to rationalize why the Aerial Knights hate the Walkure so much and the only illogical conclusion I could come up with was they hate rainbows and pop music groups (I can relate).
I do know the Aerial Knights are from the Kingdom of Windmere....and so is Freyja, that is gonna be a thorn in the Aerial Knights plans to vanquish the Walkure! Ahhh the drama!
I enjoyed the episode and look forward to future of the series and franchise as a whole.

Macross Delta Update: Live Stream 10/28

It's been awhile since I've anything worthwhile to report about the next Macross series since Frontier! I'm hyped to say come October 29th we will finally get some details on M Delta via a live stream, the winner of the idol contest, characters, the location and hopefully a teaser trailer.
Also there's a great article on Forbes ( yes that Forbes) about Macross and the upcoming new series...

Daft Punk Derezzed Music Video

Check out the video for one of the songs from the Tron Legacy sound track by Daft Punk. The music genre is perfect for the movie in my opinion and the video has some fresh footage too!

American Idol The End is Nigh!

REJOYCE!!
The ONLY reason I'm posting about American Idol is to spread the good word, that after almost a decade of oppression, the crap that is American Idol may finally be coming to an end!! With Simon Cowel no longer a "judge" and now comes word that Ellen Degeneres has quit and Kara DiAwhatshername got the boot! So now it's time for Seacrust out and Randy will follow shortly afterwards!
Next miracle will be to get America's got Talent, Dancing with the Stars, and all the other excrement off the air!

ShineDown, Raleigh, NC 2/28/09

My friend Will invited me to this blog. Just gonna jump in with a recap of the recent concert I went to.

I love concerts. The spring and summer I go more than winter, but I don't let rain/snow/heat or floods stop me from seeing my favorite bands. lol

Because as I said, I am a concert junkie.

I like all types of music. I’m not much on hop-hop/rap, or even Country, but I do like some once in awhile.

I listen to some 80’s rock. such as Metallica, Motley Crue anything similar.

But I am mostly into Alternative/Modern Rock/Post grunge. Bands like Seether, Smile Empty Soul, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, etc…

So around a month ago I see ShineDown which is one my favorite groups coming to Raleigh, NC. That is an hour and a half from me. I’m going no matter what. Hell or highwater. And there was alot of water cause it has been raining since yesterday morning.

So anyhow, I bought tickets and won a meet&greet with the band. I was totally stoked. So I go yesterday and get there quite early. Four hours early in fact. There were about 15 people already standing in line. It is cold and misting rain. But hey, I’m with crazy like minded people. I always have fun going to concerts. Everyone is always cool, of course there will be a few drunken idiots, but everyone is good to be around.

So after two hours of standing there one of the opening acts called, Halestorm which has a knockout woman singer, by the way, comes up to us with the bass player and their tour manager. They serve us coffee. lol

They said we were crazy dedicated fans and deserve something warm. It was really cool of them to do that.

So about an hour and half later at 6:45 the tour manager came out and asked about the meet&greet winners. He checks ID’s and my name is on the list. There were only three of us.

We get in they check our ID’s and confirmation stuff again. The tour manager told us to warm up and the band will be here any second. So I got to the bathroom, then come out and there they are. They were really, really cool guys. Very nice. They signed my CD and we took a picture and hung out for ten minutes while the freezing fans look inside the door. I told them I really appreciated their music and that it means alot to me. Which is does. Just talked about different things. Pretty intimate setting really. Then they had to go. We got to stay and go anywhere we liked for the concert.

They let in everyone about a 5 minutes later. It was soldout. Packed to the gills.

Halestorm came on. The singer has a great voice and they rocked us for 30 minutes. I had never actually heard them before, but I liked them. And they make great coffee, lol

Second band was Black Stone Cherry. I seen these guys a few years ago and met them. Very cool guys. They are from Kentucky and sound great. They play hard rock with a southern feel. They put on a great show. They played for 45 minutes.

Finally Shinedown comes on. I couldn’t wait. I’ve seen them several times and they have great songs. Songs with meaning. The singer sings with passion.

They literally tear the roof off the place. The crowd was into it, jumping and singing every word. Shinedown is very energetic and make you feel like part of the band. They played alot of songs off their new CD called, “The Sound of Madness” and some of their signature songs off their old CD’s such as “Burning Bright” and “Fly from the inside.”

In all I had such a blast. Meeting new people and exchanging emails or myspace addresses with people who love music like I do. And end up with new friends by the end of the night.

Until next time. Rock on.

Game Review: Rock Band

For those about to rock, we salute you!
I bought Rock Band the other day as a belated Xmas gift for the wife, it's pricey but alotta fun! We made a band, she plays the guitar and I'm on drums. Rock Band offers some deep customization for your avatar, hair style / color, body physique, clothing, tattoos, onstage movements, and instruments. Band World Tour mode lets bands play in 41 different venues spanning 17 cities, including Los Angeles, Seattle, Boston, New York, London, Sydney, Stockholm, and Rome. Playing gigs in differnt cities around the world to build up your fan base and earn $ for all sorts of stuff from new equipment to tats and clothes. If your band is rockin the bells the crowd starts singing along, but if you screw up a gig you loose fans, I lost our band 7,000 fans today because I tanked a song.
Rock Band boasts an impressive list of songs from some incredible bands like Sound Garden, the Ramones, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, the Rolling Stones, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, the Foo Fighters, the Police, Iron Maiden, Weezer, the Beastie Boys, Rush, Aerosmith, Stone Temple Pilots, Bon Jovi, the Killers, and the Who!
Aside from World Tour, Rock Band offers Solo Quickplay which consists of Tug of War and Score Duel for players to compete against each other. Band Quickplay allows two - four players to play any song in the game offline or online. You can also take your custom avatar online and jam with others rock stars around the world, four players can join up and rock out. Each player can play at their own experience level so if you're a new guitar player you could potentially be jammin with a pro.
Rock Band is expensive, aprox $180.00 USD but you get alot for the money a wireless (PS3) Fender Stratocaster style guitar, a drum pad set that has four color coded pads and a kick pedal for the bass drum, and a custom Rock Band mic. The game is great fun for parties and individuals alike and has infinte replay value especially when DLC is factored in.
For those players looking to expand their Rock Band experience even further check out http://www.rockband.com/ ! The site offers some really cool things for the Rock Band community.
Interstingly my wife absolutely loves Rock Band yet she is an an avid video game hater, and my seven year old neice didn't like it after trying it. I found it an easy game to pick up and play with a huge spectrum of difficulty levels from super easy songs to insanely crazy hard songs (I choose drums), and rumor has it that if players can play the drums on hard then you can play the drums in real life....I have a way to go lol.
