High Score Girl Review

The 80's gave me two of my favorite things from Japan Super Dimensional Fortress Macross And Street Fighter, And High Score Girl takes aspects of these two things and manages to make one amazing story!
The story revolves around Haruo Yaguchi and the 90's arcade and gaming culture, notably the fledgling FGC and Street Fighter II. The story begins with Haruo in 6th grade who is caught up in the 2nd arcade renaissance when SFII hit arcades. During one of his visits to the local arcade Haruo, who mains Guile, meets his match against a Geif player who turns out to be Ono Akira a quiet girl from his class. Haruo finds a true rival in Ono but through his fiery spirit to surpass her he begins to learn more about Akira and a relationship begins that Haruo is completely aloof to.
Meanwhile another girl Hidaka Koharu who went to the same elementary school as Haruo finds his laid back, yolo lifestyle fascinating and harbors her feelings for him. Haruo, again completely oblivious to her feelings only sees her as a means to an end when her father puts a Street Fighter II Dash arcade cabinet in front of his store. Hidaka quietly watches Haruo play, simply enjoying spending time with him, in time Haruo introduces Hidaka to his "realm" and discovers she has dormant potential in fighting games.
High Score Girl is a love letter to those of us who grew up during the 90's arcade rebirth and the 4th - 5th console generations. There is so much for me to relish in this show with all the gaming nostalgia! And the triangle between ono, Haruo and Hidaka brings me back to my youth watching Hikaru, Minmay and Misa Hiyase in SDFM.
My one and only complaint is the art style, yes it's faithful to the manga source material, but it is (IMO) just slightly better than Shin Chan from Cartoon Network.
High Score Girl launched on Netflix last December and I meant to check it out sooner but RL lately has really impeded on my time to watch all the shows I want to.
I'm very excited to watch Season 2 when it launches later this year!!

Kill la Kill TGS 2018 Gameplay Trailer

Back in the PS1 days I dabbled in a wider variety of fighting games, Battle Arena Toshshinden, Soul Caliber, MK, but my favorite franchise has always been Street Fighter. I even played Ranma 1/2 on the NES waaaaay back in the day! This generation has seen a semi resurgence in fighting games, Tekken 7, Dragonball FighterZ, Injustice 2, MK XL, KoFXIV, Soul Calibur 6, and SFV, (sorry MVC:I). I've really only played Street Fighter V this generation, I never was that hyped for DBZ and the only other fighting game that I'd like to get is Soul Calibur 6 until I heard about the Kill la Kill game coming! Below is the TGS gameplay trailer...
The game is obviously in it's alpha stage as there was only 4 selectable characters Ryuko, Satsuki, Uzu and Ira and 2 stages to choose from.
There's 4 bars below the characters health bar that build as you take damage and for now it appears the health bars don't reset after beating the opponent. There also appears to be some sort of "clash system" when the two characters attack simultaneously in close proximity.
Now I watched the Kill la Kill all the way thru, but I think the Anime has a "cult following" and never went mainstream, the anime probably turned off a few snowflakes out there. What I'm getting at is this is one fighting game that could benefit from a Story mode.
I'd love to see what type of rating the ESRB is gonna give Kill la Kill! I REALLY doubt it's gonna get E rating.

SFV AE Weekly Missions and Extra Battle Mode for 9/21/18 - 9/28/18

It's Friday September 21st, the 33rd week of SFV AE and this weeks missions went live at 12AM last night! This weeks missions are:

1. Perform a combo 10X for 50FM

2. Play a Trial! for 250FM

3. Use Fight Request to play a Ranked Match for 500FM

4. A Short Tailed Bat Colony  for 2,500FM

5. An Arcade score of 100,000 or more will be recorded in the rankings for the title "Hero of the Waters"

6. [CPT 2018] Win 20 Ranked Matches for 10,000FM

I'll post a video below to show how to complete the requirements for "A Short Tailed Bat Colony"

Go to Versus Mode, Choose Versus CPU, choose Forgotten Waterfall, choose an opponent, and hit your opponent on the right side of the stage until a flock of bats fly out of the cave.

After completing the weekly missions, head over to the eXtra Battle Mode, this week we have:

1. Ultra Heavyweight Champion for the title of Ultra Heavyweight Champ 1000 for 1000 FM participation fee per try

2. Get your hands on Fortune Tix against Balrog (SF1 Mike) for 250 FM participation fee

3. [Q&I] Get the Cammy/ Fiona Crossover Costume #4 for 2500 FM participation fee

This weeks missions can net you  3,300FM

Subtract 1000FM per attempt to beat Shin Geif.

Subtract 2500FM for Cammy's fourth [Q&I] Fiona Crossover Costume

Subtract  250FM for fighting Balrog / Mike for some Fortune Tix

This week I ended up with 3,050, FM because I opted out of the Fiona Crossover Costume....I don't play Cammy enough to justify the 10k FM, and I also didn't bother fighting Shin Geif for a title. I did fight Balrog for the 4th time for Fortune Tix, so I only spent 250FM this week on XBM.

We got some cool news this week regarding the upcoming Dojo's coming Sept 25th! I've sync'd my CFN account with the Shadaloo Combat Research Institute (S.C.R.I.) for awhile and find it a useful tool that for the life of me can't understand why it's not incorporated into the game! So when you join Shadaloo you'll recieve the dojo stage for free and then you can name your dojo and begin to personalize it with trophies, vehicles, musical intruments, sports perephenelia and a variety of decorative ornaments. There are different methods to attain dojo items via Dojo Fighting Chance. And there's also Dojo Rankings! In the main dojo menu, you can visit “Member Ranking” to see how all members stand in the dojo. Every member will automatically have points applied to them upon playing Arcade, Survival, Extra Battle, Ranked Match, Casual Match, and Battle Lounge – the more you play, the more points you’ll get. Although you will be able to see which member contributes the most, in the end, every point obtained will factor into the larger dojo rankings where all dojos are displayed on a leaderboard. If your dojo ends each month as one of the top ranks, everyone in that dojo will receive a special decorative object to show off, so work together because every point counts! Dojo rankings can be viewed at any time and go as far as the 10,000th dojo and will begin in October 2018. I will be actively recruiting all my CFN friends to my Dojo! I think this is a fantastic way to build communities within the SF FGC!

And we're also getiing some new Halloween Costumes this year for Falke, Abigail, Guile, and Kolin Sept 25th!

And the Darkstalkers costume pack comes out on the 25th also, there are 3 new costumes added to this pack Morrigan for Chun (duh), Felicia for Menat and Demetri for Ed.

As always keep fighting the good fight. Be smart with your FM don't complain about the XBM golden soldiers and "Shin" versions of characters because the alternative is Capcom charging RM for all DLC characters.

Subtract  250FM for fighting SF1 Sagat for some Fortune Tix,  subtract the 2,500FM for Rashid's 3rd [Q&I], Subtract 1000FM for the MM2 Airman Crossover 8 bit BGM, Subtract 1000FM for the MM2 Airman Crossover arrange BGM, subtract 1000FM for each attempt against Shin Bison, subtract 2000FM for Ken's 3rd [Q&I] if you missed it the first time, Subtract 2000FM for Mika's 3rd [Q&I] if you missed it the first time, subtract 2000FM for Ibuki's 3rd [Q&I] if you missed it the first time, subtract 800 FM for Proof of a Hero BGM if you missed it the first time
So this week I ended up with 21,300 FM!!!
As always keep fighting the good fight. Be smart with your FM don't complain about the XBM golden soldiers and "Shin" versions of characters because the alternative is Capcom charging RM for all DLC characters.

SFV AE Weekly Missions and Extra Battle Mode for 8/10/18 - 8/17/18

It's Friday August 10th, the 27th week of AE and this weeks missions went live at 12AM last night! This weeks missions are:

1. Use a V-Skill 10X for 50FM
2. Play Story Mode for 250FM
3. Win 10 Battle Lounge Matches for 500FM
4. Come One Come All for 2,500FM
5. An Arcade score of 100000 or more will be recorded in the rankings for the title "Cursed Warrior"
6. Perform a Crush Counter 20X [CPT 2018] for 2000FM

I'll post a video below to show how to complete the requirements for "Come One Come All".
Go to Versus Mode, Choose Versus CPU, set the difficulty to 1 (for an easier life), choose Bustling Side Street Stage, choose an opponent, and beat your opponent on the left side of the stage, I'm not sure if it's required but try to knock your opponent thru the wall into the restaurant. And if you want to challenge yourself try to knock your opponent into the closet on the second round.

After completing the weekly missions, head over to the eXtra Battle Mode, this week we have NINE! :

1. Shadaloo Apparation "Ghost of Shadaloo" title for 1000FM

2. Get your Hands on Fortune Tickets VS SF1 Sagat for 250FM

3. [Quick & Immovable] Get the Crossover Costume #2 Rashid/Airman for 2500FM

4. [Quick & Immovable] Get the Crossover Costume #2 Ken/Rathalos for 2000FM

5. [Quick & Immovable] Get the Crossover Costume #2 R. Mika/Zinogre for 2000FM

6. [Quick & Immovable] Get the Crossover Costume #2 Ibuki/Kirin for 2000FM

7. Proof of a Hero for 800FM

8  Get the Crossover BGM! Airman Stage 8bit ver. from Mega Man 2 for 1000FM

9. Get the Crossover BGM! Airman Stage arrange ver. from Mega Man 2 for 1000FM

Also note 4-7 is available for purchase via the PS Store for $9.99...

This weeks missions can net you  3,300 FM + an addional 2,000FM if you bought the CPT 2018 package. Subtract the 2,500FM for Rashid's 2nd [Q&I], Subtract 1000FM for the MM2 Airman Crossover 8 bit BGM, Subtract 1000FM for the MM2 Airman Crossover arrange BGM, subtract 1000FM for each attempt against Shin Bison,
subtract  250FM for fighting SF1 Sagat for some Fortune Tix. Subtract 2000FM for Ken's 2nd [Q&I] if you missed it the first time, Subtract 2000FM for Mika's second [Q&I] if you missed it the first time, subtract 2000FM for Ibuki's second [Q&I] if you missed it the first time, subtract 800 FM for Proof of a Hero if you missed it the first time
So this week I ended up with 2,550 FM because I only did Rashid's 2nd [Q&I] and fought SF1 Sagat for some fortune tix.

I also made a little extra FM by doing Easy, Normal and Hard Survival Mode with Sagat, Gonna do the same for G get a little more FM then tackle Extreme Survival with both of them.

I think it’s pretty interesting that Capcom released Sagat AND G at the same time, so soon after Cody.I didn't get G &/or Sagat August 6th because firstly I didn't have the FM to get either of them and secondly I wasn't sure I wanted to show Capcom that if the DLC character was that desirable I'd drop the cash on them.
But in the end I did break down and buy them with real money via the PS Store because I didn't want to completely miss the train with them.

With the reduction of FM given for the weekly missions + the Xtra Battle Mode challenges that cost FM + Fighting Chance + continues in Survival Mode costing FM,
and removing FM rewards for offline stuff, I honestly think they’re trying to phase out the ability to get DLC content via FM.
Just look at the number of eXtra Battle Mode battles available this week! If that doesn't look like they're trying to get players to use all their FM I don't know what would.

As always keep fighting the good fight. Be smart with your FM don't complain about the XBM golden soldiers and "Shin" versions of characters because the alternative is Capcom charging RM for all DLC characters.

Congratulations Problem X EVO 2018 Champion!

What an amazing Grand Final for SFV at EVO 2018! There were some great matches leading up to last nights final and some crazy upsets also. But the Grand Final between defending Champ Tokido and Problem X was the epitome of hype!

I knew we were gonna get some news for SFV last night during Final but I didn't see Capcom releasing both G and Sagat TODAY! As I jokingly said earlier many people will be forced to buy Sagat with real money when he launches with all the new additions to SFV that you can spend FM on (Fighting Chance, Continues in Survival) and little to no new ways of accruing FM.
I figured G was gonna come out later this month and Sagat was gonna come out mid/ late September. By then I'd have enough FM for Sagat for sure and maybe G as well but since Capcom is dropping them both today I'm currently short 32,780 FM for Sagat. When I woke this morning I saw the trailers for both of them and of course I watched Sagat's first, but then I watched G's and I gotta tell ya G's theme is old school hip hop hilarity!!! I despise Ed's them yet I LOVE G's!

EVO 2018 schedule

Wow it's that time again, time for THE FGC to rise up!
The EVO schedule and stream schedule is out for this coming weekend.
For me I'll be following the SFV schedule, for those on the east coast that can't convert time zones
Friday's Round 1 pools begin @ 12 pm EST
Saturday's Round 2 Pools begin @ 4 PM EST
Saturday's Semi's begin @ 8 PM
Sunday's Finals begin @ 1130 PM...I guess I'll find out the results Monday morning.
Last year I was hoping for PG Punk but Tokido dashed that dream, this year my FM is on Fujimura and his Ibuki.
I'm also curious to see more info regarding the Kill la Kill fighting game, I enjoyed the show (guilty pleasure). and the whole Seifuku/ blood letting to acquire power thing will be an interesting game mechanic!

SFV Weekly Missions and Extra Battle Mode for 3/29/18 - 4/5/18

It's Friday March 30th, the 10th week of AE and this weeks missions went live at 11PM! This weeks missions are:

  1. Perform a normal throw 10 X for 50 FM
  2. View Rankings on the CFN for 250FM
  3. Play a Ranked Match for 500 FM
  4. Come One, Come All for 2,500 FM
I'll post a video below to help show how to complete the requirements for the mission.

After completing the weekly missions, I headed over to the eXtra Battle Mode and this week we have :
Ken's 3rd [Q&I] Crossover Costume challenge for 2,500 FM,
Nash's 3rd [Q&I] Crossover Costume challenge for 2,500 FM,
R. Mika's 4th [Q&I] Crossover Costume challenge for 2,500 FM
(Proof of a Hero) against Ken in his Rathalos Crossover costume for 1000 FM.

Another week and no sign of Golden Shadaloo Soldiers....so no Xtra FM.

This weeks missions will net you 3,300 FM, and since I'm not doing Ken, Nash or Mika's [Q&I]'s I actually  made a FM profit!

In other SFV news we'll be getting 3 Darkstalkers Crossover costumes April 3rd.
They will NOT be avail via XBM like the ones we've been doing the past few weeks.
The 3 costumes  are for Menat, Juri and Urien and will only be avail for purchase on the PS store for $3.99 each

SFV Weekly Missions and Extra Battle Mode for 2/1/18 - 2/8/18.

It's Friday February 2nd, the 3rd week of SFV AE and this weeks missions went live at 12AM last night! This weeks missions are:

1. Check the rankings via CFN
2. Play a ranked match,
3. Perform a throw 10X
4. Datta's Wish

I'll post a video of the requirements for those new to SFV...

Choose Dhalsim and beat a CPU opponent on the apprentice Alley stage. BAM easy 2.5 K (ggrrrr). Next I went to Extra Battle Mode and the third [Quick and Immovable] fight is now available from 2/1/18 - 2/8/18, remember the entry fee is 2.5k FM! I don't play Rashidooo but I figured since I started collecting the gems I might as well finish.

This weeks XBM fight is against the Rapidly Advancing Shadaloo Grunt DOES NOT reward you with FM! Speaking of, this week brings us our second encounter with a Shadaloo Grunt! This XBM will cost 500 FM and beating him will earn you 10k EXP for the character you use, net is really 28,500 EXP taking the entry fee into account. And you can fight him 3 times which will net ya 30K EXP!

So between the weeklies and the XBM you won't earn much FM this week but that 28.5k EXP helped push my Karin over the hump to level 45. Last week Capcom gave us a heads up on 3 new up coming Cross Over Costumes for Ken, R Mika and Ibuki. I might be inclined to get the Kirin costume for Ibuki as I do play her on occasion. The schedules overlap so be careful you're fighting the correct XBM for the correct armor peice! If you're Scrooge McDuck and have a coffer full of  FM the all 3 Monster Hunter Cross over Costumes will set you back 30k FM!

Game Review Street Fighter V Arcade Edition

I never reviewed the initial launch of SFV back in February 2016....there wasn't much to say. The game play was tight as is expected with Capcom's flagship fighting game.
The new direction they were taking with DLC and scheduled updates was met with skepticism from most and the apparent lack of content at launch was met with an extremely high serving of salt as we say in the FGC.
I've been actively playing SFV since March 26th 2016 and as of this writing I have earned enough FM (fight money) to purchase  Guile, Ibuki, Juri, Akuma, Kolin, Abigail, Menat, Zeku and most recently Sakura (yesterday) without dropping a dime of real money. That's 900K FM, I've also been able to purchase many of the DLC stages with FM, some I dropped RM but I'm one of those who must have every stage! Ugh the memories of SFIV's stages still give me night terrors!
I'm sure I'm gonna get roasted for saying this by MANY MANY people but I was fine with SFV in it was at as of 1/15/18, I get it that there are those that don't want to play online and are content with off line game play and want to just keep playing the CPU and challenging themselves to get a higher score and see if they can beat the game at max stars with no continues. I'm no longer one of those people, I crave the challenge of beating a real person on the other side! I do still want some sort of story for the characters....it helps make the characters more relateable.....that's why I'll never use RM or FM on Ed (douche bag character)...
So when we got the Cinematic Story Mode in June 2016 that was a great addition which, in my opinion, was more impressive than some still images with text at the end of each characters run thru arcade mode to explain they're story. I enjoyed the experience and look forward to a continuation of the Cinematic Story mode this year as we creep ever closer to Gill and the rise of the Illuminati.
And then we have the Weekly Missions that net about 6k-9k FM + Survival Mode (Easy, Normal, Hard and Hell) that was another source of FM and XP + Character Trials + Tutorials......There was plenty of FM out there to grab if you were inclined.
So here we are in the third season of a game many said was DOA when it launched with a roster of 29 characters, 24 stages, Arcade Mode that spans the ENTIRE franchise history...that's over 200 endings! Art Gallery, Team Battle (offline), Extra Battle Mode which I actually dabbled with last night.
So as of yesterday there were 2 Extra Battles available Shin Akuma Strikes (1000 FM entry fee) and [Quick & Immovable] Get the Crossover Costume (2500FM entry fee) I spent the 2k (2X) FM trying to beat Shin Akuma.....now THAT was an ass whoopin I won't soon forget!
Then I tried the Quick and Immovable Extra Battle after beating Viewtiful Joe the first time I earned the boots "gem" but then it sank in that I would need to fight Joe at least 3 more times to get the other 3 "gems" but there's a chance you may not get the gem when you win! You might get XP or FM so there's a 33.3% chance of getting the gem you need. So after 3 games and only getting 1 of 4 gems and 2 XP boosts I called it quits, I don't play Rashid anyway. My initial feeling is that X.B.M. could be a huge FM sink so fighter beware....

I also tried out Arcade Mode and breezed thru SF1 with Ryu, almost got double perfects on all 4 matches. The cool thing is now there are weekly missions that tie into arcade mode, like yesterday the first mission connected to Arcade Mode was achieve a score of 100,000 or greater....easy breezy FM!
All this great new content plus all the modes that we previously had such as Survival Mode, Training Mode, Cinematic Story Mode, Ranked/Casual/ Battle Lounge and Trials!
9/10
And here's my first match using Sakura

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Opening Cinematic

I have played almost every FF title except FFXIII-2, Lightning Returns FFXIII,  FFXIV,  FF Type 0, World of FF and the FFVII spin offs. So I'm a bit of a fan of the franchise, I'm also an avid fighting game fan...mostly SF.
So this seems like a match made in heaven for me, so I'm not sure why I'm not really feeling this game.
I think perhaps it's because I'm fighting game purist, what I mean is I prefer 1 on 1 simplicity over team battles like 3 on 3 with multiple classes and a multiple bars to manage...I know I'm getting old.
Anywho the opening cinematic is cool. Kefka looks crazier than ever, I'm glad we didn't get brow beat with Sepheroth/Cloud face off's in the intro.
Dissidia FF NT releases worldwide on the PS4 January 30th 2018!

EVO 2017 July 14-16

EVO 2017 is only 9 Days away and this year there is gonna be some great  announcements like Arika's Fighting EX Layer updates, and will Chun get a face job in MVCI?, and when will Abigail, Menat and Zeku will be made avail for S2 of SFV, and when SSFV is coming?
I still actively play SFV and enjoy it, I'm hoping to see PG Punk win EVO!
What games are you gonna watch the streams for? Me? SFV mostly
