Macross Delta Episode 19 Eternal Songs

If you've read my blog at all you'd know I've been a fan of the Macross franchise since the original series SDFM (Robotech for me as a kid) back in 1982, and when Macross Plus came out in the 90's I rediscovered Macross and learned the difference between the Original and the HG version. Then in 2002 Macross Zero was released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the franchise which served as a prequel to the events of SDFM/DYRL. Thru this OVA we are introduced to Shin Kudo, Sarah and Mao Nome and the myth's of the Birdman from the Mayan legends and the series first chronological love triangle.
10 years later we are now celebrating the 30th anniversary of Macross as the Delta Squadron of the PMC Chaos aboard the Macross Elysion have their hands full trying to suppress the Var Syndrome and fight the Kingdom of Windermere who has declared war on the NUNS, claiming they are the rightful heirs of the Protoculture not Humans.
Now last weeks episode "Eternal Songs" did something never before done in Macross history, in previous series we get the franchise staples, Music, Mecha and Love Triangles with a sprinkling of references to other series thru either a flash back, or a song or passing mention of an event. We also get that one filler episode that's used as a recap of events in the current show, what happened in episode 19 can only be described as a franchise recap that effectively unites 30 years of Macross into one cohesive story!  Now looking beyond epic nature of this "recap" what this might be is Shoji Kawamori taking the first steps to rightfully reclaiming the Macross rights from Harmony Gold so westerners can finally watch Macross without having to rely on 3rd parties....dare to dream!
Aside from Berger Stone's fascinating hypothisis about the Protoculture, music as a weapon and Human DNA, there where some other things that happened such as Mirage sharing her feelings for Hayate while he lay supposedly unconscious.. and Kaname looking out towards the medical frigate Mikumo is on wondering who she is, and when it cuts to Mikumo in the "bacta tank" I immediately was reminded of Sarah Nome inside the A.F.O.S. (Artifact from Outer Space) created by the Protoculture. Not to be confused with A.S.S.-1 (Alien Space Ship) which was a Supervision Army (Zentradi) war ship.

The similarities are unmistakable and during Heinz Nerich Windermere's coronation he declares "Rudanjal Rom Mayan". I am 99% certain there is a connection between Sarah Nome, the A.F.O.S. and Windermere.
Perhaps the Protoculture left an A.F.O.S. on each planet they created legacy races ie Earth, Windermere, Ragna.
Now as far as the mystery of who Lady M is....my money's on Dr. Mao Nome!  (Sheryl Nome's Grandmother)

And I'm guessing Mikumo is a clone of Sarah Nome.....remember the beads!
I'm enjoying M: Delta but episode 19 just reinvigorated my interest in the entire saga!

Macross Delta Preview Episode .089

I'm kicking off 2016 in a Super Decultcha way, watching the preview episode .089 for Macross Delta!
M: Delta takes place in the year 2067, only a few years after Frontier, there was a lot to take in this preview and the pace was relentless but I enjoyed it. For those new to Macross it might be a little overwhelming. I was happy they kept the galactic map that showed the courses of the immigration fleets across the galaxy that was seen in Macross Frontier!
I was actually surprised this episode introduced so many characters, we first meet Freyja Wion the young stowaway that dreams of competing on Planet Laguna to be the newest member of Walkure, an idol group that is dispatched along with the Delta Squadron to combat the Var Syndrome, a mysterious disease that destabilizes the victim and sets them into a violent homicidal rage (terrorism). I thought Freyja Wion was adorable and displayed many of the same naive tendencies that we've seen in the past with other young wanna be idols...Minmay, Mao Nome, Ranka Lee.

Then we meet Hayate Immelmann a laid back kid working on planet Al Shahal on the cargo docks, he hasn't found anything in life that truly excites him....yet.
Next we meet Mikumo Guynemer the lead vocalist of Walkure who appears to be undercover on a mission but is aware of Freyja, soon after we meet Second Lieutenant Mirage Farina Jenius! Hayate reminds me of Max and then Mirage has his last name.....interesting.
Then the Var outbreak strikes at a Zentradi base and all hell breaks loose at Al Shahal City and the Delata Squadron with their respective Walkure procede to neutralize the threat!
It was cool seeing the old school Regults in action after so many years, seeing the Walkure "transform" to "go live" was kinda silly in a Sailor Moon kinda way, not cool like Kill La Kill,  I hope they don't show this sequence every time they "transform".

After my second viewing I'm getting a Macross II vibe from certain aspects of Delta such as when we hear the dirge like hymn that causes the Var outbreak on Al Shahal on the Zentradi base. The long staircase with the throne at the top reminded me of where Ishtar sat in MII . And the Walkure remind me of the Minmay Attack from MII as well.
Seeing the Aerial Knights come out of fold was a relief, the Vajra were ok but I much prefer humanoid enemies over bugs, the dog fight between SV 262 Draken and the VF31 Siegfried was ok, but nothing extraordinary.
I tried to rationalize why the Aerial Knights hate the Walkure so much and the only illogical conclusion I could come up with was they hate rainbows and pop music groups (I can relate).
I do know the Aerial Knights are from the Kingdom of Windmere....and so is Freyja, that is gonna be a thorn in the Aerial Knights plans to vanquish the Walkure! Ahhh the drama!
I enjoyed the episode and look forward to future of the series and franchise as a whole.

Macross Delta Announcement trailer

So the Live Stream just concluded and trying to watch a region locked stream on an iPhone proved challenging but I saw most of it. They showed off the new Valks, the VF 31 and Sv 262!  From what I can gather this series takes place on colony planet on the frontier of the galaxy in AD 2067. There's something called the Var Syndrome which is consuming the Galaxy.
The legacy of Protoculture continues on this new colony world where the aerial knights of the wind live.
There's apparently two squadrons, the tactical sound squadron and the aeriel knights. The Squadron flying the Sv 262 Draken's might be Zentradi....the other Squadron are flying the VF-31's Yack Decultcha!

Like M:F There will be a "Deculture edition first episode" will air 2:00 pm JST December 31st !

Macross Delta Update: Live Stream 10/28

It's been awhile since I've anything worthwhile to report about the next Macross series since Frontier! I'm hyped to say come October 29th we will finally get some details on M Delta via a live stream, the winner of the idol contest, characters, the location and hopefully a teaser trailer.
Also there's a great article on Forbes ( yes that Forbes) about Macross and the upcoming new series...

Macross Delta Announced!

So last week I decided to introduce my son to the wonderful world of anime, and I choose my favorite anime series of all time Super Dimensional Fortress Macross!
My wife says he's too young to appreciate it....she may be right but he's definitely fascinated by the Valkyries and the Macross...the whole love triangle appears to be lost on him. I find it funny that he realizes the Intro/Outro songs as well as Minmay's songs (Mari Iijima) are in Japanese but it doesn't bother him. (I think he would rather listen to Minmay than Anna and Elsa).

The night before last my son wanted to build robots with his little boy lego's and we ended building the Macross (it didn't take 10 years). Not half bad considering my limited supplies :)

So today I paid a visit to macross world ....it's been awhile since I visited that site! I went there on the daily back in 08/09 when Macross Frontier was released.
I didn't expect to see news on a new series for at least a few more years but alas it appears the search is on for the next galactic idol!
Macross (Delta) circa 2067 chronologically  only 8 years after the events of Macross Frontier. Hopefully there will be updates before the end of the year!

And for the record Sarah Nome and Sharon Apple should be in the above poster also!
DECULTCHA!!!
